House No.207, Lincoln, MA

History repeats itself with this new modern house

Located close to historic Walden Pond, this rural area previously belonged to U.S. President John Quincy Adams.  The property was also touched by America’s most famous landscape architect, Fredrick Law Olmsted, who designed Boston’s Public Garden and Central Park in New York City. In the 1960s, Henry Hoover, Massachusetts’ first modern architect, built a house on this site. While that building unfortunately fell into disrepair, the structure planted the seed for a new modern home in its place.  With an eye to the past and contemporary simplicity, we used timeless materials to design a slender cedar and glass home that cantilevers off the hill, affording dramatic three-story window views through the woods to a horse paddock below.
