Old meets new in contemporary addition to a classic house

From the street this classic-looking colonial is unassuming among its neighbors, but on the opposite side awaits a modern addition. Originally the structure had a single-story rear addition that was in disrepair. We responded to the owner’s desire to design something fresh and new that embraces the landscape and welcomes abundant natural daylight.  As one now moves through the spaces -- from front to back -- the house open up its rooms and eventually leads to an outdoor patio that blurs the lines between inside and out.
